Evaluating the value of fecal calprotectin as a diagnostic test to identify significant gastrointestinal findings at endoscopy, we found an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of 0.877 (95% CI, 0.85-0.90, Figure 2A) with an optimal cut-off at 50 μg/g. Fecal calprotectin is a nonglycosylated calcium- and zinc-binding protein with antimicrobic, immunomodulatory, and antiproliferative properties. It is present in the  25 Nov 2020 Reference values of fecal calprotectin (fCP) have not been convincingly established in children. We aimed to investigate fCP concentrations in  22 Jul 2010 Testing for fecal calprotectin is an effective way to screen for inflammatory bowel disease and can reduce the number of patients referred for  What is faecal calprotectin? Faecal calprotectin is a substance that your body releases when there is inflammation in your intestines.

Immuno Turbidimetric fecal Assays for Calprotectin & pancreatic Elastase The technology of immunoturbidimetry implements a further milestone in faecal calprotectin quantification. It allows very rapid and flexible random access use, as well as being the ideal solution for high throughput applications in the routine laboratory.

Fecal calprotectin

Calprotectin (MRP8/14 or S100A8/A9) also known as fCAL, is a protein found extensively in the cytoplasm of neutrophils. It has been shown to be extremely useful as an aid for diagnosis of inflammatory diseases in the gastrointestinal tract.

When there is inflammation, specifically when there are erosions or ulcers, the neutrophils come into the lumen and burst open. Thus, the fecal calprotectin inside the neutrophils comes into the stool and can be measured.

Why am I undertaking this test? Your GP has asked you to provide a sample of your stool (faeces) to be tested for faecal calprotectin (FCP). This test is an easy, non-invasive test Faecal calprotectin is a calcium binding protein which constitutes 60% of neutrophil cytosol therefore it is released during inflammation of the bowel. It is not degraded by gut enzymes and is stable in the sample for up to a week therefore can be assessed by sending a stool sample to the laboratory.
